DRG Construction is proud to be part of one of the largest marine ecosystem restoration efforts ever undertaken in New York Harbor.

Our team has been selected to assist with the installation of 80 million oysters as part of the Living Breakwaters Project off the coast of Staten Island — a first-of-its-kind coastal defense system built to protect New York’s shoreline while rebuilding the harbor from the ground up.

This is not ordinary marine construction. The Living Breakwaters system combines heavy marine infrastructure with environmental restoration on a massive scale. Built offshore in the waters of Raritan Bay, the breakwaters are engineered to reduce wave energy, protect vulnerable shorelines from storm surge, and create the foundation for an entirely new marine ecosystem beneath the surface.

DRG Construction will help deploy and install the oyster habitat systems that will eventually support tens of millions of oysters throughout the project area. Once established, these reefs will begin transforming the harbor — filtering water, creating habitat for marine life, stabilizing the shoreline, and strengthening the breakwater system naturally over time.

For generations, New York Harbor was home to some of the largest oyster reefs in the world. Those reefs disappeared decades ago. Now, one of the most ambitious restoration projects in the country is bringing them back… and DRG Construction is proud to be on the front lines of that effort.

Projects like this demand real marine construction experience — heavy equipment over water, complex logistics, tight tolerances, changing tides, and crews that know how to operate safely and efficiently in unforgiving conditions. This is the type of work DRG was built for.

From barges and cranes to waterfront infrastructure and environmental marine construction, our crews continue to take on projects that reshape and protect coastlines for future generations.

This isn’t just another jobsite.

This is the future of coastal resiliency.

This is living infrastructure.

And this is exactly the kind of work DRG Construction is proud to stand behind.
